Our Green Schools theme is Biodiversity. We have been working hard this term learning about biodiversity and exploring the habitats in our school/town. We had a special 'Green Schools' visitor to our classroom this week - we told her all we knew about Biodiversity in our school.

The Journey of a Letter
This fortnight, we have been learning about 'An Post'. We talked about our local postperson and how they help us and about times when we visited the post office in our town. We watched a video about 'The Journey of a Letter'. The postpeople are very busy working day and night to make sure our post arrives safely.

An Post are running a handwriting competition and we decided to enter. The theme is 'A Day in the Life of a Postperson'. We did our very best handwriting.
We put our handwriting entries in an envelope. We didn't need a stamp because it was a FREEPOST envelope. We walked to the post box to post it ourselves.
We recognised the post box straight away because it is green and it has the word 'post' on it. We noticed that the collection time for letters is 4 o'clock in the afternoon. We also noticed a key hole. The postman has a key to open the post box...we're sure he keeps the key in a safe place!
We posted our letters. A kind man arrived at the same time as us and we helped him to post his letters too. We know that our letters will be in Dublin tomorrow.

Music - Instruments Day
Today for our Music lesson, we learned about musical instruments. We talked about the instrument families such as string, percussion, brass, reed and wind.
Miss Doherty brought in flutes, a bodhrán, a button accordion and a 'dancing man musical instrument' to show and play for us. We enjoyed dancing along to the lovely music.
Miss Connaghan played the bag pipes for us also. They were very loud!!! We marched along just like the bands do in the St. Patrick's Day parades.

Seachtain na Gaeilge
An seachtain seo, we tried our very best to speak 'cúpla focail' and we took part in lots of activities that celebrate being 'Irish'. We played Irish music, sang Irish songs and did Irish dancing.
